ARTIST:
Oskar Moll was born in 1875 in Brieg/ Silesia and died in 1947 in Berlin. He mainly became famous for his partially abstract painted sceneries, still lifes and portraits. After studying in Berlin and Munich, amongst others also under Lovis Corinth, he went to Paris and made Henri Matisse's acquaintance. Together with other artists like the German painter Hans Purrmann and his wife Marg Moll, he founded the Académie Matisse in 1908, a private school, where Henri Matisse himself teached about 100 students in painting till 1911. From 1918 he was professor at the state academy for art in Breslau, from 1925 till 1932 director. Afterwards he went to Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, but was dismissed after the seizure of power by the National Socialists.
DESCRIPTION:
Small water colour painting signed with Moll and dated with 1925. We can not guarantee that this painting is an original painting of Oskar Moll by himself. In centre a light-coloured building with Mediterranian charm and a historic well system in front as well as a relaxing women leaning on a barrel. The scenery is surrounded by typical plant and landscape motifs. Fixed in a frame of wood with golden colouring and decorating elements.
