ARTIST:
Ernst Frommhold is a German artist. He was born 1879 in Leipzig and died there1955. Frommhold was well known for his landscape and marine paintings. Frommhold was represented at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich in 1937, 1938, 1939 and 1940 with six paintings.
He dealt with traditional compositions and themes in his works. He was not influenced by the expressionist trends at the beginning of the 20th century:

DESCRIPTION:
The work is watercolor on paper and shows a sailboat in the port of Hamburg. In the background more ships and the main church of St. Michaelis and the silhouette of other houses. Signed on the lower right with "Ernst Frommhold" without date. The watercolor is framed under glass, the frame age-related with damage. See the detailed photos. On the back is an old adhesive ticket of the famous art gallery Commeter in Hamburg. Furthermore, there is a handwritten note on the back probably the former owner of the picture.
