Polybios (ca. 200?118 BC) was a Greek historian of the Hellenistic Period noted for his book called The Histories covering in detail the period of 220?146 BC. In part, the work describes the rise of the Roman Republic and its gradual domination over Greece. He is also renowned for his ideas of separation of powers in government, which were later used in Montesquieu's The Spirit of the Laws and in the drafting of the United States Constitution.

This is a very rare and decorative coloured woodcut map out of the famous book by Polybios of 1574 and reminds on Ptolemaeus maps.
The woodcut shows the antique region of Assyria Persia nowadays Iran with lots of different localities, rivers and so on.
