Original medieval vellum leaf from a book of hours with two very fine miniature paintings. The leaf shows recto Saint Peter and Saint Paul and verso Saint Johanna. From Bruges/ Flanders, about 1455-1460.
DESCRIPTION:
This extraordinary vellum leaf originates from a Flemish Book of Hours and is decorated with two medieval miniature paintings in gold and colours. The front page shows Saint Peter and Saint Paul, the back shows Saint Johanna.
The vellum leaf contains on each side 17/18 lines in Latin, written in brown gothic letters with red accentuations. Each text field contains a two-line initial in gold on red/blue ground. The text is surrounded by a three-quarter floral border in gold and colours.
