ARTIST:
Bernhard Heisig, 1925 - 2011, is a German painter of the so called Leipzig School (of art).
His apprenticeship in painting he received by his father Walter Heisig. After serving as soldier in World War II and dropping out his art studies, Heisig became tutor at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. Some years later he appointed professor and director of the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, whose function he exercised with interrupts till 1987. During his teaching activity he educated painters like Arno Rink and Neo Rauch. Heisig also appointed for some years chairman of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR.
