COPPER ENGRAVER:
Nicolaes Visscher II (1649 - 1702) was a Dutch engraver, certographer and publisher. He belongs to the so called Visscher dynasty, whose founder was Claes Janszoon Visscher (1587 - 1652) with the publishing house 'in de Visscher' in Amsterdam. This publishing company was well known for its editing and collaboration of atlases and maps by Blaeu, Mercator and Pieter Schenk.

DESCRIPTION:
Old coloured copper engraving map with gold decoration by Nicolaes Visscher II (1649 - 1702) of the diocese Liège, Wallonia, published in Amsterdam, about 1690. As a central point the map illustrates Liège, which was and still is the central administrative unit of the diocese. In detail the several provinces are outlined as well as the information about cities, rivers, cordilerras and regions. Parts of France and Western Germany are also illustrated. This map is decorated with an aesthetic title cartouche and small gold ornaments.
