DESCRIPTION:
Aesthetically coloured copper engraving map by Abraham Ortelius from a Latin edition of his atlas 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum', published in 1595. The map shows the region Lazio in the section of Central Italy with adjacent areas. Illustrated are the most important cities, also Rome, cordilleras, rivers and particular landscapes. Also realized are the Fucine Lake and the Tyrrhenian Sea. A small map of the Mons Circaeius, surrounded by an ornamental frame, is furthermore integrated. Beside a title cartouche, the map is decorated with maritime staffage and a second text cartouche.
