CARTOGRAPHER:
Daniel Friedrich Sotzmann (1754 - 1840) was a German Chartered Surveyor and cartographer. In his lifetime he was one of the most important German cartographers and compiled a comprehensive work of maps, atlases and globes as well as essays and reviews. The correctness of his maps was highly appreciated, he worked as geographer for the Prussian Academy of Sciences.

Extraordinary scarce copper negraving map by Daniel Friedrich Sotzmann, printed by Friedrich Perthes in Hamburg, 1810. This map in large format illustrates Australia with New Zealand and the Pacific Ocean as well as the coastlines of North and South America and East Asia. In detail the map characterizes the islands and archipelagos of the Pacific region and gives information about the coastlines. Different and moderate colours emphasize the several borders. The title and imprint are set in a round plate.
