DESCRIPTION:
Imari porcelain is a hard porcelain originating from Japan and has been produced in the Arita region since the 17th century and is named after the nearby harbor town of Imari. Imari porcelain is typically painted in three colors: Cobalt blue, red and white, with a predominance of floral decoration and highlights of gold.
Imari jug with lid on a domed base, made in Japan, Edo period, 17th century. Pear-shaped jug with fluted belly and base, decorated with filigree floral and leaf decoration in red and blue and highlights in gold. The beak is shaped like a dragon's neck and head and decorated with red painting. The curved handle is decorated with floral elements in red and looks like a continuation of the spout. The fluted lid with integrated openings is also decorated with red and blue flowers and leaves.
