DESCRIPTION:
A Thangka usually is a scroll painting, used in Buddhist temples for meditation. Illustrated are Buddhas, Bodhisattvas or tutelary deities, mostly Thangkas are painted with watercolours on linen or silk, in some cases also embroidered.
Very fine and colourful painted Thangka on linen, probably from Nepal. In center illustration of Amoghasiddhi, one of the five wisdom Buddhas, representing success and fearlessness. Typically Amogasiddhi is holding his right hand to Abhaya mudra, a symbolic gesture, representing protection and confidence. The central scenery is furthermore arranged with an image of a temple with duck pont. The Thangka is separated in a terrestrial and celestial part by colour arrangement, the central scene is surrounded by further figurative illustrations. In addition to the strong colours, the Thangka is decorated with filigree golden ornaments.
