DESCRIPTION:
Very fascinating handwritten copy of the well known tournament book 'Turnierbuch' by Georg Rüxner, German manuscript on paper, illustrated with numerous heraldic figures, Germany, middle of the 17th century.

The tournament book by Georg Rüxner starts with a historic excursus about the jousting tournament of Magdeburg in 938. Afterwards a description of 36 jousting tournaments is following, the last explained one is the tournament in Worms in 1487. Each description contains a broad register of persons, the coat of arms of the city, of the prince and of the tournament referees. The tournament book of Georg Rüxner owes its attractiveness to the extraordinary illustrations.

This handwritten copy is fascinating by its lovely painted illustrations of hatchments, some of them in beautiful colouring, a few even as full-paged illustrations, hundreds of them as uncoloured drawings and some of them sketchy or blank. This copy is unfinished, but added with many illustrations of coats of arms and genealogical informations and refers to the edition by Sigmund Feyerabend of the year 1578 or 1579, published in Frankfurt/ Main till leaf 93 (including the preface, in between with blank leaves). This copy does not detail the jousting tournaments, but is completed with numerous coat of arms in addition. The work is written in Antiqua in dark brown ink, various text layout.
