Poetry book "Die Elemente" by the German poet Georg Maurer, illustrated with original lithographs by the illustrator Ursula Mattheuer-Neustädt. All lithographs are signed and dated by the artist, as is the printer's mark. Edition 50 of a total of 50 copies, printed in Leipzig, 1968.
Author:
Georg Maurer (1907 - 1971), born in Transylvania, the family moved to Bucharest in 1911 and finally brought Maurer to Leipzig in 1926. After studying German, philosophy and art history in Leipzig and Berlin, Maurer worked for the "Neue Leipziger Zeitung". After the end of the Second World War, Maurer initially worked for the MDR and contributed to the "Leipziger Zeitung". From then on, he published volumes of poetry and began teaching at the "Johannes R. Becher" Institute of Literature in Leipzig. Georg Maurer was awarded the Johannes R. Becher Prize, the National Prize of the GDR and posthumously the F. C. Weiskopf Prize for his work.
Artist:
Ursula Mattheuer-Neustädt, born in Plauen in 1926, is a Leipzig-based illustrator, graphic artist and author. She studied at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig and has worked as a freelance illustrator ever since. In 1972, she received the Art Prize of the City of Leipzig, and in 2006 she founded the "Ursula Mattheuer-Neustädt and Wolfgang Mattheuer Foundation".

This work is copy 50 with a total edition of 50 copies. The poems are written with further keywords on the individual elements "forces of nature", "Eros", "art" and "work"; the 11 lithographs are spread over a total of 30 pages. Walter Schiller is credited with the design, Horst Arloth with the printing of the lithographs and Kurt Stein with the binding.
