Elaborate, oval miniature painting by the famous French artist Jean François de Vallée, a portrait of Julie Récamier, gouache on ivory, 1800 - 1810. Vallée (active 1875 - 1815) was a French artist, who was well known for his elaborate miniature paintings. Because of the French Revolution some French artists fled to America; it is known, that Vallée, active in New Orleans and Philadelphia, also portrayed George Washington and Andrew Jackson. In the Corcoran Gallerie in Washington there is a silhouette of Washinton created by Vallee in 1775. The miniature of Julie Récamier is characterized by its accuracy of details and the harmonious colouring. Signed at the left center and described with Jeanne Récamier in the frame area. Furthermore fixed below glass in an original gilt-bronze frame.
